Longsheng County is within the Guilin area (prefecture), Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. And it is famous for the excessively large number of terraced rice paddy fields on its mountain, which have created an intricate pattern on the hillsides. This clever building makes the best use of the limited arable land and water resources in the mountainous area. The Terraces were first started in the Yuan dynasty and finished in the Qing dynasty by the Zhuang people. The best time to come to this spot before July as there is water in the fields and you can have your photo taken with water reflection, otherwise, other time only give you an empty terrace fields and you will find no water reflection in the fields, and your photo would not looks as as good as those taken with water reflection. However, Autumn offers a different color of the striking rice terraces.

Ping An Rice Terrace

Panorama of the Ping An terraced fields are built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the mountain top, the highest part being 880m in elevation while the lowest part is 380m. The best time for a good photo is in early June, when the paddies are pumping with water, the villages are transferring young rice plants from the seed bed to large areas of rice terrace.

Jinkeng Rice Terrace

Besides of the famous known Pingan village of Zhuang Minority Ethnic, there is another unknown Jinkeng Rice Terrace, which is home to Yao minorities. Jinkeng Rice Terraces are located around 25 miles (40 km) away from Longsheng, where you will be rewarded feats of farm engineering going all the way up a string of 2400 feet (800 m) mountains. The 66-square-km network irrigation project was began by the ethnic Zhuang in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), and finished by the Qing (1644-1911). There are two villages here in Jinkeng. The first village at the foot of the mountain is Dazai Village.

Long Hair Villages

When talking about Longsheng, people are likely to mention the beautiful terraces, but for me it is the local women with their long and black hair who are the locality's most charming feature. When visit these villages, you will be amazed by their ethnic life style of the local villages.
