Arrive in Shanghai
Arrive in Shanghai, the financial and commercial center of China. Our guide will hold a welcome sign to meet you at the airport according to your flight schedule. Then to hotel and relax for the rest of the day.

Shanghai(B/A la carte lunch/D)
This Shanghai one day tour will bring you both the local culture and picturesque scenery. The morning tour starts at Shanghai Museum, which is located at Renmin Square, the center of Shanghai. The 120,000 art collections show you the traditional culture. Then proceed to visit the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, where you will see the future of Shanghai. You will enjoy the a la carte lunch at a fancy and famous local restaurant. Then continue to visit Yu Garden, which used to be a private garden built about 4000 years ago and it is famous for being a perfect combination of hill, water, traditional Chinese building and natural scenery. Then visit Nanjing Road and The Bund. After dinner, you will enjoy the exciting Acrobatic Show.

Shanghai / Yichang (B/D)
The morning visit features the Jade Buddha Temple, which is a well preserved temple housing a white Jade statue of Sakyamuni. Also it is one of the most famous temple is China. Transfer to airport and fly to Yichang. Upon arrival, be met by our local guide and then visit Three Travelers Cave. After dinner, embark the luxury Century Star Cruise Ship and stay overnight. In the evening, there is a necessary Safety, Orientation & River Briefing presentation starts at 20:30.

Yangtze River Cruise (B/L/D)
The cruise ship will weigh anchor at 7:00 in the morning; first, the ship will pass the east section of Xiling Gorge. Then disembark to see the great water-power project, Three Gorges Dam. Then back to ship and have lunch. In the afternoon, the ship will pass the Five-step Ship Lock. Then, continue sailing through the west section of Xiling Gorge. An elegant and exciting Captain's Welcome Party will be held in the evening. You could enjoy the Chinese folk dance and music performance performed by the cruise staff.

Yangtze River Cruise (B/L/D)
After breakfast, disembark at Badong and take a small wooden boat trip to enjoy the natural beauty of the crystal Shennong Stream. Then back to ship and appreciate the shortest but most spectacular Qutang Gorge and the most graceful Wu Gorge of Yangtze River.

Yangtze River Cruise (B/L/D)
Today you will disembark the cruise ship and take an excursion to Fengdu Ghost City. Alternatively, you may visit Shibaozhai according to the river conditions. In the evening, there will be a Farewell Party after dinner. The cruise staff will invite you to join in their performance.

Chongqing/ Xian (B/L)
You will prepare well for check-out after breakfast. The ship will arrive at Chaotianmen Dock, Chongqing, at around 9:00 in the morning. The guide picks you up on board. Enjoy one day city tour of Chongqing, also called Mountain City. The Chongqing tour starts at Hongya Cave, which is a place combining travel, business, and cultural scenery into one grand view, with an overriding theme of Stilted Buildings stands for the famous traditional Bayu minority architectural style on raised wooden stilts. Then go to visit Ciqikou Old Town, a historic Chinese old town with traditional style buildings and local flavor food. Then transfer to airport for the flight to Xian. Meet the guide upon arrival and transfer to hotel.

Xian (B/ A la carte lunch/ Tang dynasty dinner show)
Today’s highlight is an excursion to the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses. They were made over 2,000 years ago with different facial expression and height. 7,000 warriors and horses composed an underground army to protect the Qin emperor after his death. Each one makes an artwork up to the national protection standard. Then enjoy the a la carte lunch at a delicate restaurant, which boasts tasty food and graceful environment. Proceed to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which was built in Tang dynasty to store the Buddhist scriptures brought back from ancient India by Monk Xuanzang. Then back hotel to have a short refreshment to be well prepared for the Tang Dynasty Imperial Dumpling Banquet with Show.

Xian /Dunhuang(B/ A la carte lunch)
After breakfast at hotel, our tour guide will take you visit the Ancient City Wall, which is now the biggest and best preserved defending system in the world. The 14 Km city wall offer you a superexcellent field to ride a bicycle. When you are waking or riding a bicycle on the city wall, both the old inner city and modern outer city is in your eyeshot. Then proceed to visit the Great Mosque and Muslim Quarter, which is located in the heart area of Xi'an. You will also have opportunity to taste the local people's daily life when you have a free stroll on the Muslim Quarter. After lunch, you will be off for the flight to Dunhuang. Dunhuang guide will meet you at the airport and deliver you to hotel.

Dunhuang/ Turpan (B/L/D)
The Dunhuang visit starts at Mogao Grottoes, commonly known as the caves of a thousand Buddha. It represents the high art achievement in painting, sculpture and religion in ancient China. Then experience the desert flavor in Echoing-Sand Dune and Crescent Moon Spring by riding a camel. After tour in Dunhuang, transfer to Liuyuan Railway Station and take overnight soft sleeper train to Turpan.

Upon arrival in the early morning, you are to be met by our guide and transfer to hotel. After breakfast, visit Karez Well, an unique underground water system invented and built by the ancient farmers of various ethnic minorities to adapt to the basin natural environment. Then proceed to visit Sugong Pagoda, known as the Turpan Pagoda among local residents.

Turpan/ Urumqi/ Kashgar (B/L)
Morning visit features Gaochang Ruins, a main city along the Silk Road dated back to 1 century BC. Then visit Baizikelik Thousand Buddha Caves and Flaming Mountains. The Flaming Mountain is a legendary mountain described in famous Chinese novel- the Monkey King. Transfer to Urumqi airport and fly to Kashgar. Be met and transferred to hotel.

Kashgar/Urumqi (B/L)
The Kashgar visit starts from Id Kah Mosque, the biggest Islamic mosque across Xinjiang and even around China. Then visit the grand Abakh Khoja Tomb, also known as the Tomb of Xiang Fei, the only Uigur concubine of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty among the 41 wives. In the afternoon, pay a visit to Sunday Bazaar, a place to get the local specialty at about the cheapest prices. Transfer to airport and fly to Urumqi. Be met and transferred to hotel.

The Urumqi one day tour starts at Heavenly Lake, a world famous mountain lake stands at an elevation of 1,900 meters. In the afternoon, have a free stroll at Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar. Beijing (B/L/Roast duck dinner)
After breakfast at hotel, tour guide will meet you at the hotel lobby and start your China tour. The morning visit starts the Tian An Men Square, which is the largest public square in the world. From here you can see the grand Monument of People's Heroes, Mao Zedong Mausoleum and the modern National Grand Theater. Then you will proceed to visit the Forbidden City, which was the imperial palace of Ming and Qing dynasties. Also here you will see the art works in ancient China, which are all under national level protection. After lunch at local restaurant, the afternoon visit features the Summer Palace. The park is a harmonious combination of Chinese ancient structures, traditional garden designing and man-made scenery. Today, you will have the chance to taste the authentic local specialty, the Peking Roast Duck Dinner. Then appreciate the Chinese Kungfu Show (alternatively you could choose Peking Opera).

Today you are going to visit the Badaling Great Wall, a symbol of ancient Chinese civilization. Being one of the must-sees during a China tour, the Great Wall offers you a superb background to take pictures. Hiking on the Great Wall will also be a special memory of your China tour, since Chairman Mao Zedong once said that he who hasn't climbed the Great Wall is not a true man. In the afternoon, proceed to visit the Temple of Heaven, where emperors in Ming and Qing dynasties used to pray for good harvest to the God of Heaven.

Maglev Train Experience
Shanghai Maglev Train (SMT) is the world's first and only commercialized maglev train line in operation and has been operated since the end of 2002. If you are interested to take a Maglev train and experience the speed of China, here, we highly recommend this optional tour for you. Not exactly an "attraction" but it gives you a special experience in Shanghai. It takes only in 8 minutes for a 30-kilometer-long trip, between Longyang Road Station and Pudong International Airport (PVG), with a maximum speed of 430 kilometers per hour. It runs from Pudong International Airport to Longyang Road.

Getting Ready to Go

Visa: Visas are required for China

Passengers must check with the local Chinese embassy or consultation to determine what personal identification and profile is required to apply a China Visa. Passengers who enter, leave and then re-enter the same country on their itinerary should check if they require a double-entry visa.

Insurance: Actually China Dragon Tour purchases the Travel Service Liability Insurance for every passenger when you book tours via this website (except those who only book hotel or air flight). However, to buy a relatively higher quality life insurance by passengers’ is highly suggested.

Preparation

A considerate pre-planning can make your trip go smoother. Several weeks before your trip, make a list of what you will need to take with you and then prepare one by one. Make sure your personal documents (passports, visas) are in order and that you have enough prescription medications to last through the trip. China Dragon Tour suggests that you make copies of passports, visas, and any other important travel documents and pack them separately from the originals. Pack a list of medications including dosage and generic names. If you lose the originals while traveling, you'll have copies for easier reporting and replacement.

How to make a telephone call in China

Before you depart, please make sure your cell phone can dial international calls. When dialing a number from China to your country, you should proceed as follows: dial your country's Exit Code + destination Country Code + Phone Number. For most countries, the exit code is 00. Exceptions include the USA and Canada (011), Hong Kong and Cambodia (001), Australia (0011), and Russia (8 Pause 10*). For Brazil, please consult with the local telephone company. If the international number you wish to call starts with a 0 (zero), you must drop this starting digit when dialing the number.

In hotels you are able to dial a call back to your country and it is usually much cheaper than your cell phone.

Check with your personal physician for the latest overseas travel health information.

Climate and Clothing

China is a huge country with varied climates. In general, the north is cold and dry in winter. In the south, summer is hot and humid, with a rainy season from July through September.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, a sweater, clothes you can layer and an all-weather jacket. Some religious sites may require modest dress to enter (no shorts, short skirts, or sleeveless tops).

Thank you for giving us such an opportunity to share our travel comments on your website.
Generally speaking, everything went well during this trip to China.
The guide service is quite good roughly. I will never forget the Beijing guide Kate, who told us a lot of story of the emperors of Qing Dynasty. Jessie in Xi'an was also excellent. She was quite a teacher. She could answer all the questions we asked about Chinese history. Mr. Wu in Shanghai also made a good tour guide in China. He was patient, and always on time. One point I want to say is that, they were all well educated and proud of your country.
The drivers were kind, friendly and helpful always. They offered us water during the tour, although I know this is an arrangement of your company, I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of them. Mr. Lee in Xi'an was a nice people. You may never image that he had a small refrigerator on his car. Because of this, we were able to drink the cold water when we came back from the Terra Cotta Warriors.
All the lunch you arranged was of high quality. Among those we liked the vegetarian food in Xi'an the best. I was surprised that the stuff in the restaurant could speak English and she gave us an brief introduction to the dishes.
By the way, thanks for coming to see us when we arrive in Xi'an. Also, it is very smart for your company to have an evaluation card in each city. We believe this is the best way to control the service quality.

Hi Brad,
we returned to Canada and gained back a day and must comment that our trip to China was marvelous including with the start in Hong Kong. We really appreciate the work into setting up our itinerary and I must admit everything was covered 100 percent. We were also very impressed with all our guides, Candy in Siahuan, (sp) Kevins was great in Chengdu and Linda in Beijing. Our drivers were also very good drivers. The tour guides did a very good job covering all the things that we saw and explaining everything. They were very patient and made life very easy.
In all our stops the guides and drivers were more than patient if it took me a little longer to get in and out of the car and also along the way at the stops. I think that the extraordinary thing is that all these young people have a very good sense of humour and more than enough patience. They certainly were a joy to be with.
I hope that you are feeling better and that you will be able to enjoy your smoked salmon with your family. It is already cooked all you have to do is eat it. It was unfortunate that we could not meet but I know that I made a good choice when I picked your company to organize our tour. Thanks again and have a very good Summer Olympic Games.
